Spring Gardens, Hickory Ridge, and Brighton Gardens Apartments

The Jefferson County Housing and Development Corporation (JCHA) is dedicated to providing safe, affordable housing for low-to moderate-income seniors. Across its portfolio, JCHA operates a total of 306 apartments serving individuals who otherwise might not be able to afford housing, in alignment with the vision and mission of the Jefferson County Housing Authority.

The first senior housing community developed by JCHA was Spring Gardens I, which consists of 100 apartments constructed in 1981 under the Section 8 New Construction Program for the elderly. Due to program requirements, Spring Gardens I specifically serves residents aged 62 and older. Additional senior communities, including Spring Gardens II-IV, Brighton Gardens, and Hickory Ridge were developed later to expand JCHA's housing efforts and serve residents aged 55 and older.

Spring Gardens, as a combined community, features garden-home-style apartments arranged around a centrally located community center that serves as a hub for resident activities and supportive services designed to enhance quality of life. Amenities at the community center include a computer room with internet access and free Wi-Fi, a craft room offering ceramics and other creative classes, and a library with a variety of reading materials.

JCHA also owns and operates a bus that provides weekly scheduled transportation to banks, grocery stores, and other essential destinations, helping residents maintain independence. In addition, community partners regularly bring planned programs and services to the center, including pop-up shops, martial arts classes, Bible study groups, and other resident-focused activities.
